Honey – A Sweet Solution

We make an elderberry syrup here on the farm that is exclusively sweetened with honey. Honey costs more than sugar, so why do we do it?

Honey is truly one of nature’s wonders. It’s been around for a long time, and as you know, it is the nectar gathered from the blossoms of many flowers by our friends the bees.

You know honey as a common sweetener, but did you know that honey has also been used as a powerful medicinal tool for centuries? Although not an herb, honey is a plant by-product and used medicinally around the world.

Honey is highly nutritious, with traces of minerals and vitamins, and antioxidants which destroy free radicals and delay aging, as well as being anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal. Honey is also an energizer, helping to overcome fatigue and regain energy. *

Honey is one of the most valued natural products used by humans since ancient times, not only as a nutritional product but also in traditional medicine as an alternative treatment for conditions ranging from wound healing to cancer treatment. *

Honey Research

Some studies suggest that honey may increase populations of probiotic bacteria in the gut, which may help strengthen the immune system, improve digestion, lower cholesterol, and prevent colon cancer. *

According to the Pharmacognosy Research Journal, April-June 2017 edition:

“Traditionally, honey is used in the treatment of eye diseases, bronchial asthma, throat infections, tuberculosis, thirst, hiccups, fatigue, dizziness, hepatitis, constipation, worm infestation, piles, eczema, healing of ulcers, and wounds, and used as a nutritious supplement.

The ingredients of honey have been reported to exert antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antiproliferative, anticancer, and antimetastatic effects.

Honey contains flavonoids and polyphenols, which act as antioxidants, and are the two main bioactive molecules present in honey.

According to modern scientific literature, honey may be useful and has protective effects for the treatment of various disease conditions such as diabetes mellitus, respiratory, gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, and nervous systems…”

We use the highest quality, locally produced honey in all our products. And with such an impressive line-up of benefits, why wouldn’t we?

We want to empower natural health for you and your family, by making high quality, elderberry products. And that’s why we give you a honey-based elderberry syrup option.
