Elderberry Cinnamon Baked Grapefruit
Yes, we baked it!
The oven is not the first thing most people think of when you mention grapefruit. Sour, tart, sometimes bitter, but definitely not “baked.”
Grapefruit could be considered an acquired taste, either you love it, or you don’t. It is most commonly eaten fresh, or as a juice. Or not at all if you can’t stand sour!
So, what are we doing putting it in the oven?!
If you haven’t tried baked grapefruit, you don’t know what you are missing. And if “sour” is the only word that comes to mind in relationship to this fruit, you definitely haven’t enjoyed it as the luscious fruit that it can be.
Let us explain.
We drizzled a bit of Elderberry Syrup on our halved grapefruit, followed by a generous sprinkling of cinnamon, all topped off with another generous sprinkling of brown sugar. A few minutes in the oven and under the broiler, and voila!
Gourmet breakfast food.
The flavors all meld together in this amazing tart, sweet, warm, spicy goodness that just melts in your mouth. If you don’t like grapefruit, you should try it this way. And if you already love grapefruit, you may never go back to eating it plain.
Who knew grapefruit could taste like dessert!?
Be adventurous. Get some elderberry syrup today and bake some grapefruit.
We dare you.
